America’s Inexperience With Tyranny

America has never truly experienced a tyrannical government before. It’s whole founding was a counter to tyrannical, British imperialism in the 1700s. It was built to go against tyranny. With the 2020s rise in American populism, it is quite clear that they are naïve to the possibility of it happening by their own hands. The USA is still a fairly young country, and many other countries in the world, that have much longer, traceable histories have experienced tyranny, fascism, religious persecution, in some form or another by their own governments. As I write this musing on the 29th of January, 2024, it seems to me, with the rise, fall and re-rise of characters such as Trump, that the US population are subconsciously, and unknowingly, falling for the potential of populistic leadership somewhat akin to tyranny.
